Mary Gets Married

Yesterday evening hubby and I went to a wedding at Stone Mountain.  I don’t know if many of you have ever been to Stone Mountain or even heard of Stone Mountain but it’s actually kind of cool.  Stone Mountain is touted as the largest piece of exposed granite in the world.  Not Georgia, not the US but the WORLD… Now THAT is a claim to fame.  Here is a picture I took when we were leaving the wedding.  You can see the mountain above the lake.

Stone Mountain

The wedding was of one of our old neighbors daughters.  Mary was one of #1’s first childhood friends.  She is a sweetheart.  She has always been able to make me laugh.  I have to tell my favorite Mary story.  Mary was always at our house or #1 was at Mary’s but usually Mary was at our house.  One day when they were in middle school, #1 and Mary were laying in the middle of our living room floor (on their backs) watching TV.  I was going somewhere (probably the store).  Our house was a split foyer.  #2 was downstairs in their bedroom.  My nickname for #2 has been Sabu for years (pronounced say boo).

I was standing at the top of the stairs calling down to tell #2 I was leaving.  #1 and Mary already knew I was leaving because they were right there, so I lean over the banister/stair rail and yell “Sabu!”.  Mary, as serious as she could be, sits up, turns around, looks at me and says “Boo!”.   She was totally serious.  I looked at her and said ”Mary, what are you talking about?” and she said …. “You SAID to say boo!”  I cracked up and bless her heart, I think I hurt her feelings because she was being totally serious.  I reminded her of that story last night at the wedding and she said “well, you DID say to say boo!”

It was great to see some of our old neighbors and their now grown kids.  We haven’t lived in that neighborhood in about 6 or 7 years now so it had been awhile since we had seen them unless we ran in to them in the grocery store or somewhere.

Mary was a beautiful bride and looked as happy as she could be which made ME very happy and hubby got to leave work early and go with me which also made me happy.

wedding in the formal gardens

Two of the girls that #1 went to school with are BOTH pregnant.   I had to violate them both by rubbing their bellies so I could feel the babies move.  And told them both to hint to #1 that it’s HER turn now.  Ya hear that, #1?  I know you do!  Here they are with their little baby bumps!

the baby bumps

The reception was lovely and I think my two favorite parts were when Mary and both her sisters got on the dance floor and danced to maybe the chicken dance?  I can’t remember but it was cute.  I always thought it was cool that mom has blond hair and dad had brown hair and ALL three girls have red hair.  Such beauties!

Mary and her sisters

My other favorite part was when they play “play that funky music” and Mary brought her grandma out on the dance floor in her wheelchair and danced with her, even twirling her.  At one point her whole family (mom, dad and both sisters) were all out there dancing with Grandma,  Such a lovely family.

Dancing with Grandma

Having known them since #1 and Mary were 2 years old, we have known them a LONG time since Mary and Nikki are 26 now.  My…. Where DID the time go?

And of course the daddy/daughter dance, as usual, got me.  They danced to the same song that #1 and hubby danced to at #1’s wedding: I Loved Her First:

Gets me EVERY time I hear it but especially under those circumstances.  The first time I can ever remember hearing it was when I was driving home from Nashville by myself right after we moved her up there and I had to literally pull over on the side of the road because I was sobbing so hard I could NOT see the road.  They grow up and leave us physically but they never leave our hearts.

I am so sad I couldn’t be there 😦 But at least we helped a lot of people who lost their cars in the flood at work! And BTW- i don’t think you are hinting anymore at this point… it’s pretty much screaming at the top of your lungs, using a blow horn, with a flashing neon sign on your head! But I love you all the same!

    • pegbur7 says:

And you’ll love me all the more when I take your kid for the weekend so you CAN sell more cars… LOL

J/k it’s just sad seeing everyone else having babies when I know yours will be so darned cute! hahaha (and of course that’s the ONLY reason)

    Oh, #1 is FUNN-Y!

I am always amazed at how you stay on topic yet get so many other things in there. It fascinates me. And I am always captivated by your stories.

I can’t even put in “print” what I think of myself when it comes to weddings. I love ALL things weddings.

This was a lovely post and it can be part of the bride’s wedding memories!

    • pegbur7 says:

Why thank you! I call it rambling! LOL I’m the same in person… I just ramble. My SIL (#1’s hubby) says he thinks we have our own language and always gets lost trying to follow our conversations because we jump around so much.

One day I’ll have to tell the whole story on #1’s wedding. Talk about wedding memories! We have memories of that wedding in more ways than one!

Nik is soooo funny! Lovely wedding. I remember you all taking us to Stone Mountain years ago to a laser show. That was pretty cool.

    • pegbur7 says:

They still do that too. In fact, as we pulled in the entrance to Stone Mountain D-kitty goes “Hey, do they get the laser show thrown in with the wedding?” Funny guy!

  4. Angelia Sims says:

Stone Mountain brings back memories. Went there on a girlscout trip waaaaay back 25 years ago!

I still remember the laser show.

Too cute about the grandbaby hint and #1’s response. HA. Looks like a beautiful wedding. Blessings to the new couple.

    • pegbur7 says:

Isn’t that laser show cool? I kind of would have liked to stay except we were WAY over dressed and brought nothing to sit ON. Instead we went my #2’s work and had dessert! NO STRESS! LOL it was great.

“Mary, as serious as she could be, sits up, turns around, looks at me and says “Boo!”.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA….OMG, that is SO FUNNY!

I swear to god, you and I have the same sense of humor!!!

I love going to weddings – even if I hardly know the couple. And I don’t care how much I try not to, I ALWAYS end up crying during the ceremony.

How cool, this was an outdoor wedding! This is like the perfect time of the year to do that too. Not hot, not cold. Perfect.

Your mention of “Play that Funky Music” made me remember the times I’d go to my family weddings and they’d ALWAYS play “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner – HA!

Fun post, Peg! Thanks for sharing!

    Have a super Monday….X

Every wedding we go to as soon as the bride walks out, hubby cries the entire time (oops. sorry honey, I mean he gets pollen in his eyes!)…At our own wedding, we could barely get through the ceremony because he was crying so hard that the minister started crying watching him and then the best man and I both started crying from watching the minister! We were a sad bunch.

  6. I have heard of Stone Mountain, but I can’t remember where or what. Gorgeous spot for a beautiful wedding! I’m glad you guys enjoyed it!

    • pegbur7 says:

It’s really cool. When you come here with Alex on one of his trips (and you know I’m gonna wear you down until you DO…) I”ll take you. As long as it’s summertime we can do the whole laser show thing. It’s a southern thing. It has a HUBE carving on one side of the mountain of Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis. The backend of one of the horses (on the carving) is so deep that you could park a bus on it!

  7. Jane says:

What a beautiful place for a wedding. I never thought of that! We used to have a season pass but have let it expire. You’re making me think about renewing it!

    • pegbur7 says:

I know, I hadn’t thought of it either but it was really nice. They had the ceremony at the formal gardens and then the reception at the restaurant at the golf course.

  8. Hadassah says:

I love her dancing with her grandma…priceless memories for them both. I’m glad you had a great time!

  9. Jimmy says:

Stone Mountain is one I will have to visit, sad thing as long as I lived in South Carolina never made it to Stone Mountain, will have to fix that huh.

“I had to violate them both by rubbing their bellies to feel the babies move”

That is so cool, I find myself wanting to do the same thing and now that Daughter in Law is pregnant I will be feeling my own Grandbaby kick 🙂
