Snow Memories

Snow

Outside the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory

We got the call that you never want to get

Your dad’s not well so you better get here quick

Money was scarce and resources were low

But family comes first so we must go

We rented a car and left early in the day

And headed for lands, to us, far away

The sun was bright and the weather was cold

The weatherman’s prediction of no snow was bold

We drove all day and into the night

Through state after state with no snowflakes in sight

We finally made it to New York State

The night was dark and the hour was late

Then the snow began to blow

Across the lanes moving to and fro

No other cars in sight for miles and miles

We began to get worried, we lost our smiles

No cars, no trucks, not even a house in sight

Had everything else on earth gone to bed for the night?

The snow was blanketing everything and deep

No restaurant or gas station or Inn for us to sleep

After hours of solitude we found a small diner

With two lone customers, one sporting a shiner

We asked how much further til we reached our destination

She said just a couple more hours to that station

By the time we reached the place we were going

The snow was feet deep and still blowing

All stores and restaurants were not visible from the cars

As the snow piled so high it seemed to reach the stars

Ice on the insides of windows appeared

As across the frozen lakes the ferries veered

The snow finally stopped but left in its wake

A mess the likes I could never dream to make

The locals continued on their daily course

No fear of the deep snow, no vocal remorse

We Southerners were not used to such weather

And couldn’t wait to get back to a climate much better

Your poems amaze me! You are so talented. Love the snow memory and those pics. She is so cute!

I have an award for you, if you do those 😉

    • pegbur7 says:

Awww thanks Angelia! I really appreciate that! I really struggle with the poetry so that makes me feel better. I do do awards (I said do do…hehehe I’m such a dork!). Thank you and I’ll be right over! 🙂

    Bright side…the snow is pretty!

  3. That picture looks…cold! I am shivering just looking at all of that snow. Sheesh. Thoroughly enjoyed your poem!

    • pegbur7 says:

Thanks Arnebya! It was VERY cold. There was ice on the inside of the car glass WITH the heater running full force. I’ve never been so cold in my life!

    “Sporting a shinner” LOL! Ouch!

Great poem! Amazing how you got it to rhyme. It must have been hard to do. Congrats! 🙂

    • pegbur7 says:

Like you said…. sporting a shiner may have stretched the truth but for the sake of rhyming! LOL Thanks for the vote of conifdence because I always find poetry so hard. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Jenners says:

Wow … I’m so impressed you were able to keep up the rhyme scheme through the whole thing! I couldn’t do that! I hope that the trip ended OK … it didn’t sound like it happened for the happiest of reasons.

  6. Did you get to the person in time?
I think you didn’t give yourself enough credit (regarding your reply on my site) Great job!

  7. Emily says:

Such a well written poem. I would have had to pull over for the night and stay somewhere, you were very brave!

    • pegbur7 says:

Thanks Emily. But the fact that we were on a last minute trip we had no extra money to stay anywhere for the night and we literally did not pass anywhere once the weather got really bad and we had already paid in advance for the place we were headed!

I like the poem. The pictures are incredible. So much snow. I am not a fan of snow. Visiting it, yeah, sure. But I decided long ago that I couldn’t live in the snow. There are people that like it so it works out.
