Moviefest

I’m hoping everyone had a wonderful holiday.  Suzi mentioned in her comment that I forgot to mention our “Christmas” tradition.  Moviefus as she called it.  Years ago when the kids were still little we started a family tradition of going to the movies on Christmas.  It was a great day to go because there was hardly anyone there and we would pretty much have out run of the theatre.

We would get up on Christmas morning (we’d also do it on Thanksgiving a lot) and each of us would choose a movie we wanted to see.  We would combine any doubles and then end up with 3 or 4 and by process of elimination or sometimes actually putting the titles in a bag or hat and picking we’d prune it down to 2 or 3.  We’d then head to the theatre which the nearest multiplex at first was about 15 or 20 miles away and try to configure a way to see 3 of them if our butts and backs would hold out.

As the kids have gotten older we’ve pruned it down to one or two depending on their attention spans and their other plans.  I believe this is the first year that we actually didn’t have any of the kids home at all.  They all had other plans so hubby and I were truly empty nesters and decided on a date day at the movies.

Of course on our way to the theatre it started spitting snow which for the Atlanta area is a BIG deal.  I think I have mentioned before how ill prepared Atlanta always is for snow.  Their idea of snow equipment is two guys on the back of a pickup with a load of sand, shovels and salt shakers…. Or pretty close to that anyway.  Any amount of snow shuts down the area.  Since it had first started and it didn’t call for any accumulation we decided to brave it out and go on in anyway.

We couldn’t have timed out choices any better.  We decided to see Little Fockers first and it started at 12:10 (so we got matinee prices – bonus!) and we got there right at 12:10 which meant by the time we got the tickets (btw, no line at ALL), gave out the slices of cake we brought for the employees since they had to work on the holiday, bought popcorn and got in the theatre they were doing the last previews.  There were only about 30 people or so in the theatre so it was great.

The movie was hilarious and we laughed ourselves silly.  I love the play between Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.  I love the whole cast actually.  The movie was less than two hours running time so by the time we got out we literally walked right around the corner (we bought both tickets when we first got there) from theatre 18  to theatre 5 and walked into True Grit as the previews were ending for that one.

In the time it took for us to watch the first movie the theatre had become quite the gathering place.  I guess more and more families must get tired of each other by early afternoon now!  We saw two different whole families of our kid’s previous teachers there.  I’m not sure if there were just more people wanting to see True Grit or the fact it was later in the afternoon but that movie was packed!  We were hardly able to find two seats together and there must have been 50 more people that came in after us!

When we left the movies the lobby was full and the parking lot was too!  And it was pouring snow so hubby decided we needed to go straight home.  We had the first white Christmas in our area since the 1800’s according to the news.  It was very pretty.  Both movies were great so I wholeheartedly recommend True Grit and Little Fockers.  You can’t go wrong with either one.  I leave you with a couple of pictures from our white Christmas!

Sounds fun! I love traditions like those!

Glad you guys had fun. Sounds like your guys and our guys trade off equipment for clearing the snow from the roads. Heard some guys from Nelson have been sent here to help clear. It’s been weird here…a dusting the week before last, snow twice last week, and a blizzard over Christmas (nearly a foot!)We are currently still stranded!

We’re not quite stranded. We only got a couple of inches. Still able to get around before dark when the roads freeze over. They are pretty good during the day. Mom said yesterday in the country pretty much all the roads were closed except interstates!

Sounds like the perfect way to spend Christmas day!

Ooooo….I can’t WAIT to see ‘Little Fockers.’

I did the samething, except I rented two movies and then sat at home watching them. It was so nice to finally sit down and relax.

    Beautiful photos, Peg!

Oh, you’ll be happy to know that we here in Philly FINALLY got some snow. It started last night and came down like a blizzard. I think we ended up getting 18 inches! Today, it’s sunny and cold. I can’t wait to go out in it!

Have a wonderful day, dear friend!

WOW… 18 ninches overnight! We’ve had it snow off and on for about three days and still only got a couple inches on the ground. Were you guys insanely busy yesterday?

I have wanted to see both of these movies from watching the previews, now you have me wanting to go even more 🙂

I am so glad you both got to see the movies ahead of the storm and time with each other is important, I sure hope Dwight had a pair of Dockers 🙂 The kids do grow up on us and make plans that do not include us but I suppose that is the old circle of life huh.

Nice that you got a White Christmas and since it’s been so long you are part of history now.

  5. We used to do Christmas Day movies when I was a kid too since none of my friends were available to play and Mom and Dad needed to get us out of the house.

  6. Those pictures are amazing! I guess snow is really unusual this year. It snowed once in San Francisco. It was on my 16th birthday. I was absolutely blown away! Such excitement! Now, I am not really crazy about snow because it’s cold and wet. I do like looking at it though!

You cant beat a good old moviefest, though i haven’t done one of those in a while.
    Nice pictures too.

  8. Man! Love your snow pics! That would be so nice to get snow. We went to to the movies Christmas too. We saw The Tourist, then Tron the next day. I still want to see True Grit!

  9. terrepruitt says:

That is a nice tradition. Glad you liked BOTH movies. I can’t sit that long.

    Beautiful snow pics.

I am glad you had a Merry Christmas!

    • pegbur7 says:

Yeah, our backs paid for it the next day but it was still nice!

      • terrepruitt says:

Yeah, I squirm too much to sit in a theater. I like my couch where I can stop the DVD and go to the bathroom, get the cat (she requires a lot of “getting”), get something to eat or drink, and TALK. I don’t like theaters because I can’t TALK. I like to TALK about the movie. Ya know, “what is she doing?” “why is she going in there?” “there is a pyscho killer on the loose and she is going into the dark barn all by herself. WHAT is she thinking?” Can’t get away with all that blather in the theater!

      • pegbur7 says:

Yeah hubby does that sometimes too. We will be watching something for the first time, together, and he’ll ask me “Why did the do that?” And I’m ;ike :How the heck do I know? I’m just seeing it WITH you!”Maybe he just thinks I’m smart & know EVERYTHING!….yeah, that’s it!
