Moviefest

I’m hoping everyone had a wonderful holiday.  Suzi mentioned in her comment that I forgot to mention our “Christmas” tradition.  Moviefus as she called it.  Years ago when the kids were still little we started a family tradition of going to the movies on Christmas.  It was a great day to go because there was hardly anyone there and we would pretty much have out run of the theatre.

 We would get up on Christmas morning (we’d also do it on Thanksgiving a lot) and each of us would choose a movie we wanted to see.  We would combine any doubles and then end up with 3 or 4 and by process of elimination or sometimes actually putting the titles in a bag or hat and picking we’d prune it down to 2 or 3.  We’d then head to the theatre which the nearest multiplex at first was about 15 or 20 miles away and try to configure a way to see 3 of them if our butts and backs would hold out.

As the kids have gotten older we’ve pruned it down to one or two depending on their attention spans and their other plans.  I believe this is the first year that we actually didn’t have any of the kids home at all.  They all had other plans so hubby and I were truly empty nesters and decided on a date day at the movies. 

Of course on our way to the theatre it started spitting snow which for the Atlanta area is a BIG deal.  I think I have mentioned before how ill prepared Atlanta always is for snow.  Their idea of snow equipment is two guys on the back of a pickup with a load of sand, shovels and salt shakers…. Or pretty close to that anyway.  Any amount of snow shuts down the area.  Since it had first started and it didn’t call for any accumulation we decided to brave it out and go on in anyway.

We couldn’t have timed out choices any better.  We decided to see Little Fockers first and it started at 12:10 (so we got matinee prices – bonus!) and we got there right at 12:10 which meant by the time we got the tickets (btw, no line at ALL), gave out the slices of cake we brought for the employees since they had to work on the holiday, bought popcorn and got in the theatre they were doing the last previews.  There were only about 30 people or so in the theatre so it was great.

The movie was hilarious and we laughed ourselves silly.  I love the play between Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.  I love the whole cast actually.  The movie was less than two hours running time so by the time we got out we literally walked right around the corner (we bought both tickets when we first got there) from theatre 18  to theatre 5 and walked into True Grit as the previews were ending for that one.

In the time it took for us to watch the first movie the theatre had become quite the gathering place.  I guess more and more families must get tired of each other by early afternoon now!  We saw two different whole families of our kid’s previous teachers there.  I’m not sure if there were just more people wanting to see True Grit or the fact it was later in the afternoon but that movie was packed!  We were hardly able to find two seats together and there must have been 50 more people that came in after us! 

 When we left the movies the lobby was full and the parking lot was too!  And it was pouring snow so hubby decided we needed to go straight home.  We had the first white Christmas in our area since the 1800’s according to the news.  It was very pretty.  Both movies were great so I wholeheartedly recommend True Grit and Little Fockers.  You can’t go wrong with either one.  I leave you with a couple of pictures from our white Christmas!
