Nashville or as #1 Calls it… Cashville

Hubby & I in Nashville

We are in Nashville visiting with #1 and her hubby.  The kids (all of them) had given me tickets to go see David Sedaris for our anniversary and as #1 said, the only “catch” was I had to come to Nashville to see him.  Well, to me that wasn’t a “catch”.  That was a perk.  I get to see one of my favorite authors AND my oldest and the grandpoopies.

Grandpoopies fighting over Hubby

The grandpoopies are her dogs.  I call them grand poopies  because they CAN…. And DO…..grand do do.  She has probably 200 lbs plus of dog.  They have Cosmo, who was SIL’s dog when he still lived at home.  She is a Rottweiler/Shepherd mix and weighs I would venture well over 100 lbs. Bo is their spaz son who is a chocolate lab that weighs about 80 lobs.  But the “queen” ALPHA dog is Tinky who is a teacup Chihuahua that weighs all of about 4 pounds and whose favorite seat is on top of Bo.  He doesn’t realize that he could gulp her down with one bite and she intimidates him to no end.  It’s really comical to watch.  Needless to say between the three of them, there is never any chance of food dropping to the floor and staying more than 3 seconds.   And Bo doesn’t realize he’s not the same size as Tinky and doesn’t understand why he can’t sit on your lap like she does.

We got here Thursday afternoon in time to eat at Noshville near Vanderbilt (where SIL is in school) for lunch.  While we were there Hubby noticed that there was a framed “article” on the wall where Noshville was declared the “best breakfast in Nashville” so guess where we are going to breakfast in the morning?  I’ll let you guys know how it is.

#1 and her friend at dinner with us

Last night before we went to see David Sedaris we went to eat at Big River Restaurant down near the riverfront.  It was a nice dinner and we got there just before the rush.  They make their beer on premise.    This is my pomegranate margarita that I had with dinner.  Yummy!

Then we walked up to the historic Ryman Auditorium where we saw the hilarious David Sedaris.  He and Augusten Burroughs are my favorite authors.  They make me laugh uproariously.  He read a few “stories” from his new book and a few essays and a few excerpts from his diary.  He is actually a lot shorter than I realized he was but he was just as funny in person as his books are.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  What we didn’t realize until right before we went downtown was that there was a huge marathon downtown Nashville this morning for which all the runners had to go downtown last night for registration/orientation.  So they had the worst traffic that my daughter says she can remember since she moved here and she works right at the exit for downtown.  But it was all worth it!

Tonight hubby made a “sample” menu for the food he’s thinking of making for my mom and dad’s 60th anniversary party and #1 had some friends over for dinner.  I think we all ate MUCH more than we intended but it was SO good.  He made maple/bourbon glazed chicken, homemade macaroni and cheese, lemon pepper shrimp skewers, greens and homemade strawberry shortcake with homemade whipped topping for dessert.  I don’t think I need to eat for a week.

Downtown Nashville - "Batman" Building

Tomorrow I think we are headed back towards Atlanta but may stop for the night at Nickajack Lake.  They have “floating” cabins.  They look so cool.  But I don’t think they have internet.  I guess I’ll have to do without my internet  for a night!  I plan to sit on the front dock of my floating cabin and maybe enjoy a cup of coffee if the bugs aren’t biting too badly!  See you guys on Monday Night.

    TOOOO CUTE!

Your trip to Nashville sounds FAAAAAAAAAAAAABULOUS!! Funny, because I just watched a documentary about The Miss Gay America beauty pagent and it was in Nashville. It looks like such a great place with really nice, down-to-earth friendly people.

Thanks Ron! They are all a trip but we love them. #1 gets jealous because when we visit Miss Stinkmonster (Tinky) wants to sleep with her Grandma and Gimpaw instead of her! They are fun and will eat anything. Tink looks like a giant log by the time we leave.

I grew up in Eastern Tennessee by Knoxville in the mountains. I went to college at Tennessee Tech Unv. in Cookville and spent a fair amount of time in Nashville.

I love the whole concept of the Pomegranite Margarita – antioxidants and tequila. And I LOVE David Sedaris. I’d love to see him in person.
