Is that one of your girls? Yikes!! I love watching cheerleading but those basket tosses started after I got out of high school. 🙂

Yes, that is #3 when she was in 8th grade. There just happened to be a photographer at that game and he was so impressed with how high they threw her (notice the basketball goal UNDER her) that he took several pics and emailed them to me. This was the best angle. When she was in 9th grade she was still only 4’10” and like 70 lbs. She is finally growing into her body! One time she got dropped and as she likes to say “broke her butt” (broke the growth plate in her pelvis). Yeah, can’t anybody tell me cheerleading is NOT a sport… at least not competitive cheerleading anyway!

And to think she got dropped doing that once…oooh, it makes me shudder!

As a mom of one who was in gymnastics and cheerleading, I relate to this photo. My hear leaped into my throat every time she was airborne. As the smallest member of the cheer squad she was a flier. There’s something about your 14 year old flying through the air that is disconcerting. Two knee surgeries later, she gave it all up to play on the high school golf team. The knee still bothers her, but I’m sure it’s nothing like it would have been if she’d continued down this path.

I know what you mean. I tried several times to talk #3 out of it. She cheered football and competition for her high school and also cheered on an allstar competition squad at the same time. It was not only physically demanding but emotionally and financially draining for her as well as us. AND the hours!!! Until she got her license and a car you know parents are responsible for getting them there and her competition squad was like an hour away. And the travel… we’d go to Dallas, Orlando etc. every year. The things we do for our kids… But I WILL admit… {sheepishly} I do miss watching her compete!
