This week’s Spin Cycle is supposed to be about Halloween costumes. Since I never celebrated Halloween growing up and I only tried to dress our kids a couple of times I feel like I was sorely
underprepared to “dress them up”. Or maybe it was just that I have no imagination and no talent with anything like that. I only found a couple of pictures of them.
First I’d like to explain the “costume” for #1. They both took dance lessons and her dance was something about pink princesses or something, I can’t even remember now. I do remember that when it came Halloween time she wanted to wear her dance costume and be a Princess pony so I put it on her and then tried to “color” her face to look like a pony but since I’m terrible at stuff like that it didn’t turn out quite like I had planned. When number 3 saw the pics years later she accused me of being racist and putting her in “blackface”. I ASSURE you that was NOT my intention. I just suck at being creative!
#2’s dance had been been about a frog on a lily pad so she wanted to wear her dance costume too so I just colored her face green. It lasted about ten seconds. As you can tell by the picture, she had already pretty much wiped it off before I could even get a picture. I don’t blame her for being embarrassed!
Years later #3 tried on the “Froggy costume” for some reason. I know I didn’t take her trick or treating so maybe she just wanted to wear the costume? For whatever reason I do have a picture of her in the dance outfit.
That’s about it for my “Halloween” anything. I know . Pathetic.

Awe, cute!
I’m pretty sure none of the other parents thought of it as black face considering she had the ears on.
Great pictures and great show and tell!
You’re linked!
Thanks Jen!
I think it’s adorable!
I thought so too at the time. It was years later they said it was creepy!
ADORABLE costumes, Peg!
And I’m so jealous because I would have LOVED to worn those tutu’s!
Bwhahahhahahhahahaha!
Have a faaaaaaabulous day, dear friend!
X
And I bet you would have looked adorable in them!
Makes you wonder if she looked at herself before you took the picture. Pony or black-face, it does look odd, but the smile is truly genuine.
She would have still smiled! You should see some of the get ups she dressed herself in when she was little. Always a little ham!
